The Netherlands defeated Scotland by four wickets in a must-win match in the Super Six stage of the ICC World Cup 2023 Qualifiers on Thursday at the Queens Sports Club.
With the victory, the Netherlands have secured their place in the Cricket World Cup in India, which will start on October 5.
While batting first, Scotland scored a total of 277-9 in 50 overs. Brandon McMullen scored a ton and their captain Richie Berrington was the second-highest-scorer of the match with 64 runs while the Dutch’s Bas de Leede took five wickets.
To book their place in the World Cup, the Dutch had to complete the target within 44 overs. However, they ended up chasing it in the 42nd over, courtesy of de Leede’s — who took five wickets in the first inning — astonishing century making sure his team play the World Cup.
He also bagged the Player of the Match award for his heroics.

Sri Lanka and the Netherlands have qualified for the World Cup and thus, will play in India in October. The Dutch also eliminated West Indies — who failed to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in history — from the race.

It must be noted that 10 teams will fight for the ICC Cricket World Cup trophy across 10 venues from October 5 to November 19, with the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad hosting the tournament opener and the final.
The tournament will be played in the round-robin format with all teams playing against each other for a total of 45 league matches.
The top four teams will qualify for the semifinals, which will be held in Mumbai on November 15 and in Kolkata on November 16. The semi-finals and the final will have reserve days.
